Fiji
Viti Levu
During my stay in Fiji, primarily focused on diving, I also managed to catch a few waves. One memorable surf spot was on Tavewa Island, in the Yasawa group. There, the waves were small but entertaining, breaking over a coral reef on the southwest corner of the island. However, if you’re planning to bring your surfboard to Yasawa, be aware that the surf conditions can be quite inconsistent. It’s a good idea to be prepared to engage in other island activities if the surfing isn’t optimal.
In Fiji, reef breaks are the norm, yet I managed to find a beach break at Sigatoka on the southwestern side of Viti Levu. . Right at the river mouth, sandbanks generate superb waves that make for a thrilling surfing experience. The only drawback was the murky, brown water flowing from the river, which, as the sole surfer out there, made me vigilant. The possibility of encountering some ‘toothy’ fish certainly added an extra element of excitement to the surf.
Overall, a trip to Fiji provides a fantastic array of unique watersport activities, making it an unforgettable destination for adventure seekers.
